Totally Didn't See This One Coming.....

So yesterday we got a phone call.

It was a good phone call. A really good phone call.

It seems that since Rhett has had a relatively good winter with hardly any major illnesses, he got to do something today.

Can you guess what it is?

Ya. I know. I am just bursting with pride too.

He started Pre-school today.

See? Here he is with Daddy in the parking lot of the school....

Here he is in the parking lot again, showing off his super cute new "Uppy" backpack.

I cannot believe how grown up he is, and how freaking red his hair is getting!!

"Hey dad, I got this...I can open this door on my own...I am a big boy now."

Hanging up his back pack with his teacher Miss Laura.

Wow. Pre-school.

I remember back in October when he turned three and was supposed to go, but the Dr's thought he needed to stay home so we could watch him and see how he did health wise. I felt so jipped that he didn't get to go when I knew that he would just love making new friends.

So when we talked with our pediatrician during Rhett's well child check last week, and we discussed how well he had done throughout the winter, (I mean he really has considering what he went through the last two winters...) We got the go ahead to let Rhett take a giant step in his progress by heading off to school.

I didn't expect it to be so soon, but yesterday his teacher called and said if I was willing to bring him this week, until they get bus services set up, he could start today.

This morning we got Rhett out of bed and dressed him in his cute new clothes...the kid has outgrown everything he owns...and took him to school.

When Hunter found out that Rhett would be going to school, he looked at me and said..."Wow, I hope for the teachers sake everything in that classroom is secure."

It took me a good 15 min to assure him that these teachers handle kids like Rhett all the time, and that they would be okay.

I had to giggle that he was more worried about the teachers than Rhett.

We dropped him off, and he looked like he was going to cry, but he didn't. The note at the end of the day said that he cried for about 5 minutes when he had to go back inside after recess.

Yah, that's about Rhett in a nutshell.

It also said that he is a good kid....a "busy" good kid.....

So, in other words it probably took all they had to keep him from dumping everything in sight out, and they were chasing him around from one mess to the other.

~Just like at home.

All I know is that this kid has gotsta himself some structure in his life. Hopefully that is what school will do for him. He's smart as can be, but he thinks he rules the world.

At the end of the day when I went to pick him up he was sitting on the carpet singing songs. I watched him from the window, and he looked at the teacher, looked at his aide, and when he realized they weren't looking he reached up to the little girl in front of him and ripped the clippies out of her pretty long brown hair.

I busted out laughing.

I think school is going to be great for him. At the very least he'll have a little girl to steal clippies from. What more could a 3 year old little boy ask for?

My autistic nephew has been going to a special preschool for like, two years now.... He rides the little bus for 45 minutes each way. I cry sometimes thinking about it. Wittle guy. They're all growing up....

That's fabulous! And so funny that Hunter knew who was really in trouble!

Enjoy some free time!

Do you need some boy-clothing? Not much survives the boys at this point, but I do have some smaller items somewhere that might be in decent enough condition for spare clothing.

So......I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. Oh Sir Rhett....look at you, a big pre-school boy.

The photograph of Rhett and Daddy walking in the parking lot at school has to be one of my all time favorites....it gave me chills.

Way to go Rhett....and I LOVE that hair, can you bottle it for me?

Would you care if I shared this post on the kidz blog this Saturday? It goes along so well with the song I want to use. Just let me know. Thanks!

That's awesome! He'll do great, I'm so glad they let him go! Is it through the school district or private? Peer models? Does he get therapies there? Come on mom ... details! ;)

I can't believe his red hair either! Woweee! Chelsea may have to rethink her commitment, not sure she's ready for a wild hot tempered red head! Just kidding of course. He looks like he's even sporting a new do.

Welcome to the world of preschool, and for the BIG question ... what did you do for those couple of hours? Something good I hope ... took a shower, painted your toenails, had a quickie w/ DH ;)
